SRC Marks International Women in Engineering Day with Special Lunch & Learn Session

To recognise International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), SRC hosted a dedicated Lunch & Learn session focused on the importance of gender inclusion in engineering. The session was led by Abigail Onabanjo, Project Engineer, who guided a thoughtful discussion on the significance of INWED and the ongoing efforts needed to remove barriers facing women across the industry.

The event also welcomed contributions from Helen Brunskill and Niamh Leonard, both of whom shared their professional journeys, experiences, and insights. Their stories offered both encouragement and practical advice, sparking conversations on how organisations can play an active role in creating a more supportive and equitable environment for women in engineering.

SRC’s Lunch & Learn programme provides a regular platform for knowledge-sharing and dialogue among colleagues. This special INWED edition offered an opportunity not just to reflect on the progress made, but also to acknowledge the challenges that persist—particularly around early career support and long-term retention of women in technical roles.

“Thank you to everyone involved in organising today’s Lunch & Learn. It was a fantastic way to celebrate such an important day. While we’re making progress for women in engineering, true gender equality still requires collective effort. Days like this aren’t just about celebration—they’re also about inspiring the next generation and addressing the challenges women face at the earliest stages of their careers.”
