Disciplines: Civil/Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Signalling, Drainage
The Stepney Green fire-rated enclosure project was a multidisciplinary initiative that required seamless collaboration across civil/structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering disciplines. The primary objective was to design a one-hour fire-rated enclosure around existing operational and safety-critical systems, including essential signalling equipment.
The project presented significant challenges due to the tight space constraints at Stepney Green Station. Additionally, the design needed to meet Transport for London (TfL) standards for fire resistance integrity and insulation, ensuring that the enclosure would provide the necessary safety measures without compromising operational efficiency.
SRC Infrastructure executed the project with a focus on delivering high-quality design and compliance documentation within a rigorous assurance regime. This commitment to quality and compliance was pivotal in enabling construction to proceed on schedule.
In response to evolving project needs, SRC Infrastructure also undertook additional works after the initial designs had been agreed upon. This included enhancements to the ventilation and lighting arrangements within the enclosure. SRC Infrastructure met the challenge head-on, incorporating these changes into the designs, which allowed construction to commence with minimal delay.
