SRC is playing a vital role in the Piccadilly Line Upgrade (PLU), supporting the increase of the overall capacity of one of London’s busiest Tube lines via a number of projects. This multi-disciplinary initiative involves replacing outdated train systems with a new generation of energy-efficient, air-cooled, high-capacity tube trains known as the 24TS.
To optimise the efficiency and reliability of the new fleet, SRC has been engaged deliver concept designs for key infrastructure upgrades. These include new tunnel lighting systems, advanced control panels, and trackside electrical equipment. The introduction of the 24TS stock brings distinct power requirements compared to the existing rolling stock fleet, necessitating the reinforcement of parts of the electricity supply with resilient and compliant equipment. Through the delivery of these concept designs, SRC is ensuring a robust foundation for the successful integration of the new trains.
Some of our work on this project involves the Current On-Line Relays (COLRs) and the Track Lighting Control Panel (TLCP) at Hatton Cross, which are both are critical components in modernising the infrastructure to meet the demands of the 24TS.
“I want to thank the team for their hard work on this project, not only are we contributing to a historic transformation of London’s transport network, but we’re also solving complex engineering challenges. Seeing our designs take shape and knowing they’ll directly impact thousands of journeys for years to come is incredibly rewarding.” – Anthony Adamson, Associate Director.
SRC’s involvement on this project showcases our commitment to delivering precise, compliant, and innovative solutions that pave the way for a more efficient and sustainable future for London’s transport network.
