Silwood Sidings – Train Preparation Facility

Services: Programme Management, Contract Management, Leadership

SRC Infrastructure played a pivotal role in the successful delivery of the Silwood Sidings Project, an award-winning design and build initiative that transformed a Central London brownfield site into a fully operational train preparation facility. The 17-month project involved extensive construction work, including the excavation of 70,000 tonnes of earth, the laying of 3.5 km of track, and the installation of over 1,200 sleepers and 1,755 tonnes of concrete bases.

Acting as Project Director on behalf of the Principal Contractor, SRC Infrastructure led the design and construction of 10 roads for train preparation. This complex task involved integrating signalling systems, connecting a turnout from the main line, and constructing a crossover between existing tracks. To support these operations, SRC oversaw the installation of 350 lighting bollards, 320 lamp posts, 105 bulkhead lights, and a comprehensive cabling and cable route management system.

Additionally, the project required the installation of acoustic barriers, DC traction power systems, and CCTV, ensuring the facility met the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.

SRC’s leadership in managing the design and construction phases ensured the project was completed on time and within budget. The Silwood Sidings Project received multiple awards, underscoring SRC Infrastructure’s ability to deliver complex urban infrastructure developments efficiently, while adhering to tight schedules and stringent quality standards.
