SRC marks International Women’s Day by reflecting on the theme “Give to Gain”

To celebrate International Women’s Day, SRC is reflecting on this year’s theme: “Give to Gain.” The theme encourages individuals and organisations to think about how acts of support, opportunity and advocacy can help create more equitable workplaces and industries.

The concept highlights a simple but powerful idea: when we intentionally give — whether that’s sharing knowledge, offering mentorship, creating opportunities, amplifying voices or dedicating time to support others — we help open doors for others to grow and succeed.

Across the engineering and infrastructure sectors, initiatives that support inclusion and progression are essential to building a stronger and more diverse industry for the future. By actively supporting one another, we can help ensure that talent and potential are recognised and nurtured at every stage of a career.

To mark the occasion, colleagues from across SRC have shared short reflections on what they will be giving this year to help others gain — from mentoring and championing new voices to creating opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Their reflections highlight the many ways small actions can make a meaningful difference in supporting others and strengthening our professional community.

“This year I will give continued support and mentorship to women across SRC, helping them thrive in an underrepresented infrastructure industry. I also hope to engage with younger women not yet in the workforce, highlighting the range of careers and opportunities available and encouraging them to consider paths they may not have previously imagined.” – Phoebe Bassett, Associate Director

“This year I will give my time, openness, and willingness to learn to gain greater equality and understanding across our teams. I will continue to educate myself and others on diversity and inclusion, encourage different perspectives in discussions, and remain approachable so colleagues feel comfortable sharing ideas or concerns, helping to create a respectful and inclusive culture at SRC.” –  Nishat Tasnin, Contract / Commercial Manager

“This year I will continue to create opportunities for my team to build confidence, take ownership, and grow as future leaders. By encouraging others to lead and supporting their development, I hope to create space for growth and ensure everyone has the chance to contribute.” Carmela Pongan, Senior Finance Manager

“This year I will give my voice and encouragement to gain greater equality. By supporting different perspectives, speaking up when it matters, and creating space for those around me to share their ideas, I hope to help ensure everyone feels confident, valued, and heard.” – Jessica Corden, Finance Manager

“This year I will give mentorship and encouragement to aspiring and early-career engineers, to gain a more inclusive environment and confident generation of women who feel empowered to build careers and lead in our industry.” – Rohinee Pattani, Project Engineer

“This year I will give my voice and support to gain greater equality by backing diverse perspectives, sharing opportunities openly, and helping ensure capability and commitment matter more than who traditionally holds space.” – Prapti Shetty, Project Manager
