Earlier this week, several of our Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) members attended the Railway Division Chair’s HQ Address 2025: Engineering Good Connections – the Next 200 Years of Railways.
The seminar explored the long-term future of rail, considering how innovation, engineering, and policy must come together to create a more sustainable transport system. It highlighted the importance of resilience and reliability in meeting the growing demands of passengers, government, and industry.
“It was an excellent opportunity to listen to the Chair of the IMechE Railway Division and learn about the great work being done to improve the resilience and reliability of the railway network over the next 200 years, as well as meeting the ever-growing public and government demands. We were also able to meet likeminded IMechE fellows to discuss the critical role that young engineers will have in driving the solutions that address these demands.”
