SRC is thrilled to announce the start of our engineering services framework with Luton Rising, a local economic development company known for its community-focused assets, including the Luton Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART). Luton Rising is solely owned for community benefit and is recognised as the most socially impactful airport in the country.
The electrically powered Luton DART majorly improves travel to London Luton Airport by offering faster, more convenient journeys from over 60 locations across the Thameslink and East Midlands Railway networks, connecting passengers from Brighton to Corby. Passengers can now travel from London St Pancras to the London Luton Airport terminal in as little as 32 minutes.
The DART supports the sustainable growth of the airport by reducing road congestion and the environmental impact of journeys to and from the airport. It is a critical component of the Luton 2040 vision, which aims to create a carbon-neutral town and increase the rail modal share for airport passengers. Th DART plays a key role in securing 10,000 jobs at London Luton Airport and an additional 16,000 jobs in the local and regional supply chains.
SRC Infrastructure will be providing engineering support and advisory to Luton Rising as the new system settles into operation.
Lead Project Manager Ed Boatman said “This is a fantastic opportunity for SRC to demonstrate its engineering capabilities on a state-of-the-art rail system. We are particularly happy to be working with Luton Rising, knowing that our work will be for an organisation so committed to benefitting the local community.”
